About Maggie

Hermosa Beach is the community that shaped my values, my vision, and my entire life’s work.

Hermosa is where I grew up, and it’s where my heart is. As a kid here, I thought everyone had close-knit neighbors, endless bike rides, and the freedom to run to the beach whenever they wanted. It wasn’t until I came home after college that I truly saw how rare and special our little beach city is. We are a community that genuinely celebrates and takes care of one another.

As a lifelong South Bay waterwoman, my connection to this ocean and this coast runs deep. I love this town fiercely, and I am running for City Council to make sure we thoughtfully modernize our city services without losing the local beach vibe that makes Hermosa feel like home.

True democracy starts right in our own neighborhoods. As America approaches its 250th anniversary, I believe we protect our future by stepping up to serve locally. Beyond my time on our local school board, I’ve dedicated my entire life to building up communities. My path has taken me from serving as a Peace Corps volunteer to working as a classroom teacher and youth coach, and now leading as a non-profit administrator. Along the way, I’ve learned to use my background in law and public policy to solve tough, complex problems.

For me, leadership is all about relationships. I’ve spent my career building bridges from Los Angeles to Sacramento to Washington, D.C. to bring real results back to Hermosa. Those connections have already brought matching construction funds, critical grants for school counselors, and statewide recognition to our local schools.

Now, I’m ready to use those same skills, relationships, and deep love for our town to serve you on the city council.

My Professional Foundation:

  • Public Servant: Returned Peace Corps volunteer, former classroom teacher, youth soccer coach, community volunteer and advocate, and elected trustee

  • Executive Leader: 20+ year career as a non-profit administrator driving large-scale, public-private strategies with regional, statewide and national nonprofits

  • Legal and Policy Expert : graduate degrees in Law (Loyola Law School), Public Policy (University of Chicago), and Education (Loyola Marymount University), former Adjunct Professor and legal advocate at LMU

Commitment to our Open Spaces

Hermosa Beach is a 1.4 square mile town. Our greatest asset is our people and our public spaces - the greenbelts, parks, beach and access to the Pacific Ocean. Housing, parking, and property development is balanced to preserve access and enjoyment for future generations.
